The first Three Minute Thesis Competition was held at the University of Queensland in 2008. The idea spread quickly, and universities around the world now host events. Graduate students compete to be the best presenter of their research and its significance, in terms anyone can understand and in only three minutes. First Lego League

On the 25th, the North Dakota State University in Fargo hosted two qualifying tournaments for the First Lego League where teams are engaged in hands-on STEM experiences. Dr. Abdul-Aziz Banawi had the opportunity to join this event as Robot Design Judge, where he met with different teams to discuss their ideas.

North Dakota Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Annual Meeting.

the school of architecture at NDSU hosted the annual meeting of the USGBC North Dakota Chapter. this event aims to browse the activities of the chapter and creates an opportunistic for the interested public to meet with the Green Buildings professionals. this year, the ND chapter was able to host two gust speakers to talk about their experience getting involved with green buildings challenges and opportunities. furthermore, a brief of the USGBC students chapter previous activities and future plans. Last an overall progress of the LEED Lab course that started last year at NDSU BY Dr. Yao as a first course accredited by the USGBC in the state of North Dakota. This year the event is hosted by Architecture professor David Curtchfield

Dr. Abdul-Aziz Banawi will have the opportunity to present in the upcoming 4th International Conference on Fossil and Renewable Energy next month, the 18th in Houston, Texas. Dr. Banawi will discusses the findings on an ongoing research to design a data base for a best practices in construction in Fargo, ND using BIM. This work is funded by NDSU and assigned to Mr. Cyril Ahiable, a first year master student and a member of the BGLab.

A new member joined our family this semester. Mr. Simon Boadi Boateng a promising scholar from Ghana.

Mr. Boateng holds a BSc. Degree in Civil Engineering from KNUST. He is a registered Trainee Professional Engineer with the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE). He has had varied professional experience in pre and post contract civil engineering consultancy services spanning a period of four (4) years. He has strong knowledge in structural engineering software like CSc Orion, Prota Structures, Staad Pro, Auto Cad structural detailing 2015, Auto desk Robot Structural Analysis Professional etc. and a high proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office. He has appreciable knowledge in steel construction and facilities management. He also has a good experience in engineering surveying.
